What is a regional center and what role does it play in the EB-5 process?

An EB-5 regional center is defined as an economic unit that promotes the economic growth of a specific geographic region. Anyone is eligible to apply for regional center designation with USCIS, but it is a lengthy and expensive process. Regional centers sponsor projects, and investors in these projects are able to count direct, indirect, and induced job creation—whereas direct EB-5 investment projects can only count jobs created directly by the new commercial enterprise.
