What are the main differences between USCIS and the NVC?

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is responsible for receiving and adjudicating immigrant petitions. Approved petitions are forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC), an agency of the Department of State, who then handles the visa application and interview process.
